Karen Hatcher is a Mother, Wife, Entrepreneur, Investor, and Philanthropist who founded Sovereign Realty & Management in 2008 as a full-service real estate investment and management company. She and her dedicated employees serve every customer with the passion of their motto, “Improving Lives, Transforming Communities.”
Karen currently serves as the 2022 President of the Atlanta REALTORS Association. This is a historic year in the prestigious institution’s 112th year as she is the first African American female president and the first African American Owned brokerage to hold the office of President.
As an equity and wealth advocate, she uses her expertise to help others obtain material wealth through real estate and landownership. Mrs. Hatcher is the CEO and Qualifying Broker of Sovereign Realty & Management and has been named 2023 Small Broker Committee Chair for the National Association of REALTORS®. Highly decorated in the real estate industry, Karen was also the recipient of the Atlanta REALTORS Association 2021 President’s Award, an award personally selected by the President of the Association and is given to the member for outstanding service and contributions to the Association going far beyond any assignment.
Karen attended Clark Atlanta University, where she received her bachelor’s in Finance degree in 2002. She then continued her education, achieving a Master’s in Business Administration, with a concentration in Real Estate, from Georgia State University in 2011. While at Georgia State, she was awarded Student of the Year by the Institute of Real Estate Management® (IREM®) Georgia Chapter, then Candidate of the Year in 2014, and in 2015 she received the Presidential Award.
She entered into the Multi-Million Dollar Sales Club (Now coined Top Producers) by the Atlanta REALTORS® Association in 2015 and has met the requirements every year since. In 2017 she was awarded the Five Star Circle of Service and Captain of the Industry awards from the Atlanta REALTORS® Association.
Karen is a Certified Property Manager® (CPM®), the elite mark of distinction for those invested in real estate demand when they seek someone they trust to manage their assets. Serving the Atlanta metro area for over a decade, Karen sets the standard in sourcing investments and developments, keeping vacancy rates low, maximizing-income sources for her clients, and developing quality affordable housing for all to have a pathway to realizing the American Dream of homeownership.
Karen was named one of Atlanta’s Influential Leaders by The Atlanta Business Chronicle’s “Power 100” list and recognized as a Woman of Influence by both The Atlanta Business League and The Atlanta Business Chronicle. Karen is a top leader in Atlanta; and a trusted media source. She is regularly called upon for her expertise in outlets such as The Atlanta Business Chronicle, NPR, TIME Magazine, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, to name a few.
Karen believes in reaching back to the communities that nurtured her and gives her time by serving on the Board as a Director, National Association of REALTORS®; Director, Georgia REALTORS®; Trustee, Asset Management & Association Services; Trustee, Atlanta Realtors Board of Education; NAR Presidential Advisory Committee, NAR Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) for Congresswoman Nikema Williams appointed by the National Association of Realtors®. In addition, she is a Continuing Education instructor for the Capitus Real Estate School, where she teaches Ethics and Leasing and serves on the Board of Governors.
