Local Nonprofit ANDP Pledges To Create Affordable Housing Options By 2025

A local nonprofit is working to create at least 2,000 affordable housing options in metro Atlanta.
Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the homeownership and wealth gap for Black residents, Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership Inc. (ANDP) recently pledged $438 million to make sure affordable housing is available for low-income residents.
John O’Callaghan, president and CEO of ANDP, joined Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”
O’Callaghan and show host Rose Scott discussed several topics, including the threat of a wave of evictions brought on by the pandemic, the importance of rental affordability and ANDP’s Closing the Gap: 2K BY 2025 plan.
“We need to multiply what we can do and continue to have hope,” said O’Callaghan.
Under ANDP’s plan, the nonprofit pledges to develop or renovate 250 single-family rental homes, 500 single-family homes and create or preserve 1,250 multifamily apartment homes throughout Atlanta.
O’Callaghan says the ANDP is partnering with several local organizations and hopes that work will continue to expand.
“We have a model that if there were resources that were at a larger scale, they could be deployed, and deployed through great stewardship, they could make a difference,” said O’Callaghan.
